Plans for families

If you need some good ideas, here are some suggestions that you will love and with which you will create good family memories. We suggest the best family plans to do with your children in San Sebastian

A walk through the city

Mountains in Donostia

A day at the island

We propose you the plan to spend an unforgettable day on the island of Santa Clara.

A nice excursion to do with family and friends. Remember to bring your picnic baskets, swimsuits, sunscreen…

To get there you have to take the “Aitona Julian”, a real adventure. You will feel like pirates sailing the bay of San Sebastian.

When you disembark, we recommend you to go up to the highest part of the island in search of the campsites with picnic tables and take a walk to the lighthouse. Did you know that many years ago the plague patients were transferred to the island to avoid catching the plague?

It’s time for a swim! If you are lucky and you get a day of low tide you will enjoy the small beach of the island, how beautiful!

There is also a swimming pool that will allow you to have a lot of fun.

It’s time to go back and even if you are very sad, the return trip in the motorboat at sunset is a whole other experience. The island of Santa Clara is a magical place to which we always want to return.

Parks in Donostia

Donostia’s parks are, without a doubt, one of our greatest treasures. Can there be a better plan than enjoying these green lungs of the city with the family? Confess it, because we all have our favorite. The one where we used to run when we were kids, the one we visited with our first love, and of course… the one we like to take our kids to.

Hiking in nature

Visit a museum

Sail aboard a sailboat with Náutica Probanza

Probanza Nautical School in Donostia-San Sebastian with boats in Getaria.

If what you want is an excursion or a boat trip, choose the experience you like the most and enjoy sailing. Flysch route, full day sailing, half day sailing trip or even a spectacular sunset.

Markets

Visiting the magnificent markets of Gipuzkoa is one of the best plans that can be done with the family, taking advantage of the opportunity to learn about and consume local products. Buy vegetables directly from the local farmers and ask them how they grow them, choose honey, Idiazabal cheese, enjoy seasonal products such as apples and all its elaborations… A perfect excuse to teach children the value of good food and local produce.

Surroundings

If you need good ideas, we have some suggestions that you’ll love and that will help you create wonderful memories with your family. We offer the best family plans to enjoy with your children in San Sebastián.

Pasajes de San Juan

Only about 5 kilometers from the center of San Sebastian is located Pasajes de San Juan. It is worth a trip from the capital of San Sebastian to discover this typical Basque fishing environment.

Hondarribia/ Fuenterrabía

Located on the Basque coast, at the mouth of the Bidasoa River, Hondarribia (Fuenterrabía in Spanish) is a picturesque fishing village that amazes with its traditional architecture and its cuisine based on fish, seafood and delicious pintxos, as well as its long beach where you can take a dip in summer.

San Juan de Luz

San Juan de Luz, Donibane Lohizune in Basque, is one of the most visited towns in the North Basque Country. No wonder. Its enormous beach, seafront promenade, town centre and harbour are a delight to all those who decide to escape to this idyllic location on the Basque coast. An old corsair town that encourages us to enjoy its colourful façades and its great promenade just by strolling through its streets.

Biarritz

Biarritz, an elegant seaside town on the Basque coast of southwest France, has been a popular resort since European royalty began visiting in the 1800s. It is also a major surfing destination, with long beaches and surf schools.

Bayona

Bayonne, capital of Lapurdi (French Basque Country), is one of the most beautiful and striking urban centres of the so-called ‘Pays Basque’.

Zarautz

20 kilometres from San Sebastian is the coastal town of Zarautz, a town with a strong focus on surfing and gourmet cuisine.

Getaria

Getaria is a coastal town, known mainly for being the birthplace of the sailor Juan Sebastián Elkano, the first man to sail around the world. It is a popular tourist destination in the Basque Country. It is famous for its restaurants that prepare grilled fish and the white wine with denomination of origin that is grown nearby, known as Txakolí de Getaria.

Zumaia

Zumaia is one of those towns that leave their mark. An urban center, located on the coast of Gipuzkoa, about 30 minutes from Donostia San Sebastian, offers a nice range of spaces to see and enjoy. The contrast of the intense green of the mountains and the penetrating blue of the sea, makes that all the people who visit this town keep a nice memory of their trip to Euskadi.

Orio

Orio, a small fishing village located on the coast of Gipuzkoa, awaits us with open arms to enjoy its gastronomy, history and culture. The mouth of the river Oria, the cliffs and the mountains offer us a unique and special place. A place that pilgrims have traveled for centuries

Tolosa

Tolosa, the ancient capital of Gipuzkoa, encourages us to see and enjoy each and every one of its attractions. The urban core, of medieval character, houses most of the attractions of the town. Spaces, which together with its gastronomy and its events, allow us to enjoy a very complete tourist destination.
